18-year-old charged in deadly shooting near west Charlotte park

UPDATE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An 18-year-old has been charged with murder in connection to a deadly shooting in west Charlotte.

Around 11 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a shooting on Bristol Drive. This is near the Westerly Hills Park.

Upon arrival, officers located a victim, later identified as 18-year-old Isaiah Shorter, with a gunshot wound. Shorter was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Investigators identified 18-year-old Jayden Almendarez-Vigil as a suspect in this case. He was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder.

It is unknown what led to the shooting at this time.

Almendarez-Vigil was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating a deadly shooting in west Charlotte.

The shooting happened Wednesday morning just after 11 a.m. on Bristol Drive. Medic says one person was pronounced deceased.

The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Isaiah Shorter.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives were seen canvassing the area near Westerly Hills Park.

At this time it is unknown what led to the shooting or if anyone is in custody.
