Suspect wanted for involvement in Catawba County fatal shooting

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. – The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at a Vale residence. Officers located the victim, Rusty Johnson, suffering from a gunshot wound. Johnson was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators responded to the scene and identified Thomas Christopher Banks, 39, of Cherryville, NC was identified as the suspect. Banks is currently wanted in connection to the shooting.
