Person, pet exposed to rabid coyote in Huntersville

A rabies alert has been issued in Mecklenburg County after a person and a pet came in contact with a rabid coyote.

County officials say the exposure happened on June 6 in Huntersville.

Both the person and the pet are undergoing treatment. This is now the fourth confirmed case of rabies in the county this year, and the first involving a coyote since 2018.

Officials say remember to have your pets vaccinated and if you see an animal acting sick or displaying unusual behavior, you should call 311.
