CHARLOTTE, N.C. (News Release) — The Chairman of the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners released a statement on the appointment of attorney Rob Harrington as Charlotte’s interim mayor.

The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners extends a heartfelt congratulations to attorney Rob Harrington on his appointment to serve as Charlotte’s interim mayor.
Mr. Harrington’s appointment stands as a meaningful testament to the respect he has earned over the years through professionalism, integrity, and dedication to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community.
Over the course of the next 18 months, we have a series of unique opportunities to strengthen and improve our community. As chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, I, along with my colleagues on the Board, look forward to collaborating with Interim Mayor Harrington and the entire Charlotte City Council as we continue to improve the quality of life for all our residents.
We would also like to take this time to express our sincere gratitude to Mayor Vi Lyles for her decades of service to Charlotte-Mecklenburg, our region, and state.
Throughout her career, Mayor Lyles has served with remarkable dedication, genuine compassion, and unwavering commitment to the long-term prosperity of our community.
From her time as a member of the City of Charlotte staff to elected office, she has led our community through various critical turning points with limitless pride, steady resolve, and honor. Through her work on affordable housing, racial equity initiatives, our transportation and mobility projects, and economic and workforce development efforts, she has been the visionary leader our community needed.
Mayor Lyles is certainly leaving this community better than she found it, and Charlotte- Mecklenburg owes a debt of gratitude to her for her selfless leadership.
