Historic church in Charlotte changing its name after 80 years

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An historic Charlotte church is changing its name after 80 years. Myers Park Baptist Church is now known as Myers Park Covenant Church.

Leaders say the word “baptist” no longer reflects the church’s inclusive character.

The congregation voted to make the change earlier this month. The church has long been known for its socially progressive views and as advocates of women and LGBTQ+ individuals in leadership.
