Police: Truck driver charged after falling asleep at wheel, killing woman in Union County

A tractor-trailer driver has been charged after allegedly falling asleep at the wheel and killing another driver in Union County, according to the Monroe Police Department.

It happened around 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1 at the intersection of Pageland Highway and White Store Road.

Police said Charles Allen Davis, operating a tractor-trailer, fell asleep while driving. According to investigators, the vehicle went off the right side of the road and entered the intersection where it collided with a Toyota Camry.

The Toyota driver died as result of the injuries she sustained in the collision.Β 

Davis, 64, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
