Suspect charged with murder in deadly Gastonia shooting

GASTONIA, N.C. – A man has been charged with murder in connection to a deadly shooting in Gastonia, according to police.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenview Meadows Apartments off Greenview Drive. Police said they received multiple calls of a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located 34-year-old Terrill C. Gilmore with a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Following the shooting, investigators identified the suspect as 45-year-old James Lewis II and found him at the Hudson Landings apartment complex off Hudson Road. Police said Lewis was holding his three-year-old child when confronted by the officers, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Lewis was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
