Father arrested, accused of killing own child in Pineville

PINEVILLE, N.C. – A man was arrested and faces a murder charge after allegedly killing his own son.

Police say they responded to a call at the Sabal Point Apartments near South Polk Street just after midnight Thursday.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the caller, who said that Jehaaz-Akil Echoles, the father of her child, broke in through the front door, entered his five-year-old son’s room, and shut the door. According to the affidavit, Echoles did not live there.

When police arrived, they found the child unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. The child was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Echoles was later located and taken into custody. He was charged with first-degree murder, assault on a female, and simple assault.
