Driver killed after semi truck hits deer in Chesterfield County

One person is dead after a freak accident involving a deer in Chesterfield County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

It happened around 12:39 p.m. on US 1 near Teals Mill Road.

Troopers said a Jeep was traveling north on US 1 behind a semi truck. The freightliner struck a deer that was still in the road from a previous collision.

The semi truck slowed down to try and get off the road. That’s when the Jeep hit the trailer of the truck, the highway patrol said.

The Jeep driver died as a result of the collision. Their identity has not been released at this time.

This collision remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
