Victim identified in southeast Charlotte homicide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The victim of Sunday’s fatal shooting has been identified as 31-year-old Jaqualla Monique Simmons. This investigation remains ongoing.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One person is dead after a shooting in southeast Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Around 7 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to an apartment complex on Wallace Road near East Independence Boulevard and Monroe Road in regards to a shooting.

Upon arrival, police said they found a victim with life-threatening injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Medic said two others were injured but not from a gunshot wound.

A firearm was recovered at the scene. Police said they are not seeking any additional suspects in this case.
