CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer has been arrested and charged with assault, according to police.
It happened around 2 a.m. on Friday, July 17 in the Central Division.
Police said Officer Joseph encountered an individual on a bike. Joseph allegedly pushed the person off the bike, causing them to fall and sustain minor injuries.
Following an investigation and a voluntary interview with Joseph, detectives obtained warrants for his arrest and charged him with simple assault. Joseph voluntarily turned himself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
“No one is above the law, especially those of us entrusted to uphold it. The alleged actions of this individual are troubling and does not reflect the values of our organization. CMPD is committed to building community trust through transparency and accountability.”
Joseph is on unpaid administrative leave while the internal investigation continues. He was hired by CMPD in September 2024.
