Human remains found while searching for missing Catawba County man

BROOKFORD, N.C. – Investigators with the Brookford Police Department and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation located human remains buried at a property on 4th Street Place SW near highway 40.

The search was executed while investigating the disappearance of 79-year-old Claude Wayne “Doc” Holsclaw. Investigators could not confirm whether the remains are of Holsclaw or connected to his disappearance. The remains are now subject to an active death investigation.

The remains will be transported to the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for further investigation where the cause and manner of death will be determined. Investigators suspect foul play but no criminal charges have been filed at this time.

This investigation remains ongoing.
