Video shows Crumbl Cookie employees doing hair on the job

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – William Baker visited Crumbl Cookie on South Kings Drive Saturday night for a sweet treat. His hopes crumbled when he spotted an unsanitary situation.

“I’m not going to get my cookies tonight. That was what I was thinking,” Baker said. “I couldn’t believe that someone thought that was okay.”

He recorded a video of the bakery doubling as beauty salon. The video is now circulating on social media. It appears to show an employee sitting on a ladder while another employee stands above her applying oil to her scalp.

“I sat there in disbelief for a second,” Baker said. “Then I pulled out my phone and I just watched them doing the hair and the other girl over there frosting cookies.”

Baker confronted the employees, but says he was dismissed by them. On top of that, he says the store didn’t even have fresh cookies.

“I walked inside and I said, ‘what you’re doing isn’t sanitary’ and the girl that was doing the hair, she said, ‘do you see me cooking?’ I said, ‘but you’re in the kitchen,’ Baker said.

In a statement to WCCB, a VP of public relations for Crumbl called the situation inappropriate saying in part, “Upon learning of the incident, we immediately closed the store, discarded all dough on site, brought in a professional cleaning crew, and took appropriate action with the employees involved.”

Baker says he visited another Crumbl location that night to get his fresh chocolate chip cookies. He says the Midtown location has lost his business and that’s just how the cookie crumbles.

“I ain’t going back there. No. I’m done with that location,” Baker said.
