West Nile virus detected in mosquitoes in Mecklenburg County

MECKLENBURG CO., N.C. – A warning from Mecklenburg County officials, after West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes. We are told the virus was found in a swarm of mosquitoes on July 14.

No human cases have been reported yet.

Officials say most infected people show no symptoms, but the virus can cause fever, headaches, and rashes. Since there is no vaccine or cure, health officials urge you to wear bug repellent, dump out any standing water on your property, and wear long sleeves at dawn and dusk.
