Court deals Silfab Solar a legal blow, opponents push to shut down Fort Mill facility

FORT MILL, S.C. – A South Carolina court has upheld a decision prohibiting solar panel manufacturing in York County’s light industrial districts. The circuit court ruling affirms a unanimous zoning board decision against Silfab, agreeing that the plant’s hazardous chemical processes violate local ordinances.

The decision does not immediately close the Fort Mill facility, but citizens are now calling on York County to enforce the law and regulate the site

A Silfab spokesperson tells WCCB in part, “While Silfab Solar is disappointed by the ruling, we are pleased that the court acknowledged that the BZA’s decision was limited…More importantly, this decision has no effect on our current operations.”
