Katie Blessing Center is getting closer to completion of phase one of construction

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A new youth behavioral hospital in east Charlotte is getting closer to completion. The exterior is now enclosed and drywall is complete at the future Katie Blessing Center on Central Avenue.

It will be the largest pediatric behavioral health hospital in North Carolina. The first phase will include a 48-bed hospital. A 24-bed psychiatric treatment facility will be built in phase two.

Right now, patients often have to travel far from home. Katie Blessing Center intern Kayla Flett says, “I struggled a lot with depression and anxiety and was in two inpatient hospitals, and eventually flew across the country to California where I was there for two months receiving residential treatment. And coming home I was like, ‘Wait, why did I have to go so far to receive care for my mental health?'”

The center is slated to open early next year.
