Meck. Co. Environmental Services Building renamed in honor of long-time employee Rusty Rozzelle

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Mecklenburg County is renaming the office building housing Environmental Programs and Services in memory of former water quality manager Rusty Rozzelle.

A dedication ceremony was held Thursday at the facility on Suttle Avenue in west Charlotte.

The long-time employee passed away last year after serving the county for 45 years. In his role, Rozzelle oversaw ordinances protecting streams and waterways.

Mecklenburg County Commissioner Elaine Powell says, “He cared so deeply about problem-solving to make sure that we were doing all we could to protect the environment in ways that protected the water.”

Rozzelle also played a major role in initiatives like floodplain regulations and greenway development.
