Pedestrian struck, killed on I-77 in York County

ROCK HILL, S.C. – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a tractor trailer on I-77 in York County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

It happened around 10 p.m. Thursday night on I-77 southbound at mile marker 77 near US-21.

Troopers said the victim was involved in a previous collision and their vehicle went off the road to the right, struck a wall, and became disabled.

The driver exited the vehicle and reportedly stood in the roadway. That’s when a southbound semi-truck hit the driver and their vehicle, according to the highway patrol.

The victim died at the scene. Their name has not been released.

No other injuries were reported.
