Severe storm threat increasing across the Carolinas
Have at least two ways to receive warnings.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – As the sun shines, our severe weather threat is increasing across the Carolinas. Expect scattered severe storms through the evening.
TIMING: Storms are possible in the afternoon, but the greatest threat comes between 4 PM – 10 PM.
THREAT: Damaging wind is the greatest threat. Hail and isolated tornadoes are also possible.
What to do if a Tornado Warning is issued for you:
Most injuries associated with high winds are from flying debris, so protecting your head and putting as many walls between you and the outside as possible is critical.
Get to the most interior room in your home, away from windows. If you have a basement, that is the place to be.
Watches vs. Warnings: What’s the Difference?
- Watch = Be Prepared. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch or Tornado Watch means conditions could produce dangerous storms.
- Warning = Take Action. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Warning means dangerous weather is happening now, or will happen soon.
- A Tornado Emergency is issued when a large, violent tornado is confirmed on the ground and causing catastrophic damage.
