Two people in critical condition after murder-suicide attempt on I-77

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Police say an abusive relationship came to a head on Interstate 77 in Mooresville Sunday.

“Seems like it’s an ‘if I can’t have you nobody’s going to have you’ type of thing and we hear that all the time,” Chief Ron Campurciani from Mooresville PD said.

The chief says 23 year old J’Kobe Tre’Shon Ramseur shot a woman who was driving before shooting himself in the head. The chief said they had an on-again off again relationship.

“About 8:00 Sunday morning he text her and talked about a murder suicide pact and he kept pressuring her to pick him up,” Chief Campurciani said.

Ramseur has several open criminal cases in surrounding counties. This is a mugshot from a weapons charge in Morganton back in 2023. The chief says there was a struggle inside the car over the gun.

“We have a video from someone who had a dash cam in his car that shows the vehicle swaying all over the road the tire pops off the car is jerking so erratically,” Chief Ron Campurciani, Mooresville PD said.

Ramseur and the woman are now fighting for their lives at the hospital. If he regains conciousness he’ll face attempted murder charges. His charges could be upgraded depending on her condition. Chief Campurciani says this should serve as a cautionary tale for anyone dealing with abuse.

“Once he pushes you once, he shoves you, that’s it…if you think it’s going to get better, you’re delusional because it doesn’t, it gets worse,” Chief Campurciani said.

The chief says the department took so long to release details about the case because they wanted to make sure evidence was lined up and the case was air tight to get justice for the victim’s family.
