Bus driver killed from head-on crash in Albemarle

A bus driver died after a three-vehicle collision in Albemarle, according to police.

Police responded to a multi-vehicle collision on US 52 at Salisbury Avenue around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday morning

According to police, a Stanly County Public Transportation bus and a Ford truck were traveling north on US 52 when a southbound Jeep hit an unidentified object in the road. The Jeep driver reportedly lost control, went into oncoming traffic, and struck the bus head-on. The Ford truck then rear-ended the bus.

The bus driver, 60-year-old Stella Dase, died at the scene. The Jeep driver was seriously injured and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
