14-foot hammerhead shark found dead at Carolina Beach over the weekend
CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. – Beachgoers on the north end of Carolina Beach were shocked to see a 14-foot scalloped hammerhead shark on the sand Sunday afternoon. Because of the shark’s massive size, it took a team of officials from Ocean Rescue to bring the animal fully onto the shore.
The shark was already dead when crews retrieved it. While the exact cause of death is still unknown, researchers noted evidence of fishing interaction.
