Skateboard, backpack lead deputies to two men breaking into local church

IREDELL CO., N.C. – Two men are behind bars after being caught during a church break-in. David Jewell and David Painter are charged with felony breaking and entering a place of worship.

Iredell County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Winthrop Friends Meeting Church just after 7:00 Tuesday morning. They say they found signs of forced entry, as well as a backpack and skateboard left outside.

While inside the church, a deputy says he heard movement and a door slamming, as the suspects tried to flee. The deputy quickly ran outside and arrested the two men.
