Inmate dies in Mecklenburg County Sheriff custody

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate while in custody. The victim was identified as 33-year-old Domonique Chisholm who was in custody at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center.

A detention officer called for a medical emergency after Chisholm was found unresponsive. Medical assistance and lifesaving measures were administered until emergency personnel arrived. Chisholm was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead the following day.

“On behalf of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, I want to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Sheriff Garry McFadden. “We recognize the profound loss they are experiencing, and they remain in our thoughts as they grieve. Any death in our custody is taken with the utmost seriousness, and we remain dedicated to the care of every person entrusted to our custody.”
