West Nile virus detected in human in Gaston Co.

GASTON CO., N.C. – The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is investigating the state’s first cases of West Nile virus this year. The first case involves a person living in Gaston County.

And, a West Nile virus positive blood donor was identified in Mecklenburg County through routine screening.

Health officials say to protect yourself, wear mosquito repellant, especially at night after sunset until dawn, and pour out any water collecting in containers around your house.
