CMS Superintendent will return to district after investigation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Mecklenburg School Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill will return to the district August 12th. The CMS Board of Education placed Dr. Hill on paid leave back in June to complete an investigation into matters regarding administrative and operational oversight. They did not elaborate on the exact allegations.

“We believe that with some with some oversight discussions, that we’ll be able to do what’s best for the interest of children. Because again, all of our actions are-we keep the children and our families at the center of it. And if we did not think that we would be able to do that, then we would have come to a different outcome,” Board Chair Stephanie Sneed said.

The Board hired an outside law firm to handle the investigation into potential wrongdoing. The investigation took seven weeks to complete. WCCB is still working to learn the exact cost of the entire investigation, but Sneed says it was worth it.

“We are executing our duties as employers,” Sneed said. “It is our fidelity to do that. We were elected to do that. So it is important that we keep that in mind. And the amount of time that it took is the amount of time to make sure that we had all the facts and to make sure that it was thorough.”
