RALEIGH, N.C. (News Release) – The Powerball jackpot received a $25 million boost on Tuesday due to strong ticket sales to push Wednesday’s massive prize to $1 billion.
A winner in tonight’s drawing would have the choice of taking home the $1 billion jackpot as an annuity or $433.1 million in cash. If won, the jackpot would rank as the eighth largest in Powerball’s history.
“What an opportunity for lottery players in North Carolina to get to play for a billion dollar jackpot tonight,” said Mark Michalko, chief executive officer of the N.C. Education Lottery. “This could truly be a historic night. Good luck to everyone going for that life-changing prize.”
As the jackpot keeps climbing, North Carolinians keep taking home other big prizes too. Monday marked the fifth consecutive Powerball drawing where a ticket in North Carolina won at least $50,000. The lucky $2 ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball to win a $50,000 prize. The winning ticket came from Murphy USA on Tanglewood Parkway in Elizabeth City.
The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Players can buy Powerball tickets at any lottery retail location or through Online Play on the lottery’s website, nclottery.com, or with the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
