Suspect out of medical facility, formally charged in random Dilworth sidewalk attack

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The suspect in a viral Charlotte sidewalk assault has officially been booked into the Mecklenburg County Detention Center. 32-year-old Diquan Hunt was officially charged Friday with assault with a deadly weapon.

Police say Hunt randomly punched a woman on a sidewalk off East Boulevard in Dilworth back on July 30. The victim suffered serious injuries. Hunt had been held at a local medical facility for a week following his initial arrest on August 6th.

Arrest records reveal a long pattern of violence, showing Hunt has been booked at least nine times since late 2023 on various assault charges. His first court hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Sheriff Garry McFadden released a statement Friday, emphasizing that Hunt will be processed professionally, adding that his thoughts and prayers are with the victim during her recovery.
