Suspect shot by Monroe Police officer not expected to survive
MONROE, N.C. – A suspect is in critical condition in the hospital after being shot by a police officer in Monroe. Investigators say a woman called for help around 10:00 Sunday night to say a man she knew was attempting to break into her home on Alda Drive.
The first officer to arrive says the suspect pointed a gun and refused demands to drop it. The suspect was taken to the hospital where investigators do not expect him to survive.
Monroe Police Chief William Bolen says, “They have to make a split second decision that can impact an individual’s life forever. Unfortunately, the actions by this individual led to those consequences.”
Investigators say they’re still working to identify the suspect shot by the officer.
