US Atty for the Western District of NC appears on Rising to talk about dangers of fentanyl
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Friday is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day. It’s a day to remember the lives lost to fentanyl poisoning, support impacted families, and educate people about the danger of the drug.
This week, US Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Russ Ferguson was on Rising with WCCB Charlotte’s Taylor Miller. He talked about how highly addictive and highly deadly fentanyl is, and how it’s often hidden in other things, like marijuana or Adderall. He warns: do not get pills off social media or from friends, only get them from a pharmacy.
Ferguson also offered these words of hope, saying, “You know, I had a Facebook Live earlier this week with an addiction specialist and he gave me so much hope. ‘Cause he said this: you can get over this addiction. There are people out there that are addicted. If you’re watching and you’re addicted to this, there’s a life that you cannot even imagine out there. And it was really inspiring and, and gave me a lot of hope. It’s a nice part of my week.”
Fentanyl is tasteless and odorless and it could be in anything. Ferguson says we have to think about it all the time, and have these conversations with our kids frequently.
