Two residents arrested after shots fired at Newton apartments

NEWTON, N.C. – The Newton Police responded a call after shots fired were reported at Day Break Apartments. Officers found that several apartments had been struck by gunfire.

After the preliminary investigation, it was determined that the shooting was targeted at a male victim who was staying at the apartment complex. Two Newton men were named as suspects in the incident.

Letia Lyerly, 33, was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property.

Dillion Staton, 25, was arrested and charged with multiple felony counts of accessory after the fact and received a $200,000 secured bond.
