NORTH CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte–Mecklenburg Police Department’s SWAT team successfully de-escalated a barricade situation overnight Monday, August 31st. The incident occurred on West Sugar Creek Road near Sugar Creek Park in north Charlotte.
CMPD officers located a vehicle of interest, connected to a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday, August 29th, that left one individual with life-threatening injuries shortly before 5pm. Officers located an individual matching the description of a person of interest leaving a nearby apartment.
The individual proceeded to go back inside and barricade himself in the apartment. While SWAT negotiators talked with the individual inside, other members of the SWAT team worked to ensure the safety of those within the immediate area.
At around 12:26am, the suspect fired his weapon at officers from inside the apartment and officers did not fire back. No injuries were reported.
Negotiations continued overnight into Tuesday morning. At 4:25am, the suspect peacefully surrendered to SWAT officers. The suspect was identified as 33-year-old, Jerricho Alexander.
Alexander was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted murder, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and possession of a firearm by felon.
