Former Rowan Co. Schools employee arrested while trying to board a cruise ship on warrant for indecent liberties with a student

ROWAN CO., N.C. – A former Rowan County School employee is in custody after being accused of an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Deputies say Ricky Taylor was arrested in Florida last month after attempting to board a cruise ship. The 56-year-old had been on the run since July of 2025 on a warrant for felony indecent liberties with a student by a school guardian. The investigation started in November of 2024.

Taylor flagged a wanted persons database at the cruise dock. He was extradited to North Carolina this past Tuesday, and is now held at the Rowan County Detention Center.
