CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer is recovering after being shot while responding to a call in west Charlotte early Wednesday morning, and the suspect is still on the run.
Police responded to a call on Enderly Road between Freedom Drive and Tuckaseegee Road.
Police say it started as a suspicious vehicle call, involving two suspects. Investigators later uncovered that vehicle had recently been stolen.
When an unnamed officer arrived on scene, police say the suspect fired their weapon, striking the officer, and fled. The officer did not fire back at the suspect.
The injured officer was to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. Police have not released any other details about the suspects.
The CMPD is the lead investigating agency in this case. As standard procedure with any officer-involved shooting, CMPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation.
