Repeat offender brothers now facing nearly 200 criminal charges

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The suspect accused of shooting a CMPD officer earlier this week, and his brother, now face nearly 200 charges across multiple jurisdictions.

Police say Dionte and Jatarius McCracking are both career criminals with extensive histories of break-ins and motor vehicle thefts dating back more than 10 years.

On Wednesday, Dionte McCracking is accused of shooting a CMPD officer is the shoulder after the two fought over a gun on Enderly Road. He was then arrested after a SWAT standoff. The brothers are also facing charges for several shootings in August.

WCCB Charlotte spoke with someone who says they’ve been terrorized and their home targeted by Dionte McCracking. The person, who asked to remain unnamed says, “There was a glass green door there that (got) shot out (by) a lot of bullets. Got into the house, not just outside of the house. Two vehicles. And by the grace of God, we are still here. We all, we all are safe. And I thank God that they found the person involved in this situation.”

Dionte McCracking is being held without bond on charges of attempted first-degree murder, assault on an officer, and weapons charges.

Police say his brother, Jatarius McCracking, was arrested on September 2nd.
