Parent of Charlotte secret peeping victim speaks out

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Parents are speaking out after a repeat offender is accused of secret peeping in a South Charlotte Target store. Police say 31-year-old Adem Shrader recorded under teen girls skirts inside the store Sunday afternoon.

“It’s just crazy like it just doesn’t feel safe anymore,” Michelle Lopez, one of the Victim’s Mothers said.

Michelle Lopez says she left her 15-year-old daughter and two of her friends at the target in Blakeney Town Center while she waited at a restaurant in the same plaza.

“I’m chaperoning, it’s not like I dropped them off and leave them there,” Lopez said. “The fact that it happened with me in the parking lot waiting for them it’s scary and all these teens come here they want a place to be able to walk around.”

Police say 31-year-old Adem Shrader followed several young girls around the store and recorded videos under their skirts. At one point, he maneuvered around clothing racks to get the shot.

He’s facing one count of secret peeping and 3 counts of indecent liberties with a child.

“The fact that she just went to a Target and this happened during the day, it’s scary, it’s sad and they didn’t even notice he was between the clothing racks the security cam caught that,” Lopez said.

Police say Target security spotted the man in the store. Court papers show he followed the girls to the checkout with an empty shopping cart and a bottle of Orange Fanta. Police arrested him before he left the store. Records show he faced similar charges in South Carolina back in 2024.

“Why was he out? Why is he doing this? How is he allowed to roam around if he’s already been charged with something like this?” Lopez asked.

Shrader is being held in the Mecklenburg County jail on $100,000 bond. If he does get out of jail, he will be banned from the Target store. He previously served jail time for peeping tom charges in South Carolina.
