CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The suspect who died in the officer involved shooting that occurred on Friday, September 18th has been identified. Curtis Jermaine Massey, 47, has been identified as the suspect in the incident.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has formally filed a petition for the release of the body camera footage from the incident. CMPD Chief Estella Patterson issued a statement about the matter.
“I am deeply committed to being transparent and forthcoming, while balancing our legal duty to protect the integrity of an active investigation. Having personally reviewed the body-worn camera footage from the recent officer-involved shooting, I believe it provides critical context that will help the public understand what happened. Under North Carolina law, releasing body-worn camera footage requires a court order. Today, our police attorney formally filed a petition seeking that authorization. We will share an update and release the footage according to any guidelines set by the Court.”
