CMPD employee accused of embezzlement

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An employee at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is accused of embezzlement. Police arrested 33-year-old Wilson Rivera Espinosa, a safety specialist assigned to the Passenger Vehicle for Hire Unit. That unit regulates and inspects things like taxis and limousines.

Warrants say Rivera Espinosa converted money order payments for his own use. It was discovered during a routine review that showed inconsistent payment receipts.

Rivera Espinosa has been placed on administrative leave without pay as the department begins the process to fire him
