Family wants answers, police want tips after toddler is shot and killed while asleep in his own bed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A community is coming together to support the family of a four-year-old little boy who was shot and killed over the weekend in northwest Charlotte. Investigators say Caleb Flax was an innocent victim, sleeping inside his home on Grassy Patch Lane, when someone fired into that home.

Members of Charlotte’s Muslim community spoke out about the tragedy on Wednesday. Caleb’s grandfather is Muslim. He says there are still so many unanswered questions about what happened. Frank Abdullah says, “This right here, you don’t know why, right? This is right here is isolated and it’s very hurtful. We don’t know why.”

No arrests have been made. Detectives believe more than one person was involved. They are looking for any relevant home security camera footage from around 2:50 that morning. Call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 if you have information that could help police.

A GoFundMe has been started to support Caleb’s mother. Bryanna Flax was beside him in bed when the shooting happened. Caleb was Bryanna’s only child. A balloon release honoring him will be held Saturday at Enderly Park. It begins at three p.m. Caleb will also be remembered Sunday at an event at the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s office as part of National Day of Remembrance
