Miles of gridlock after tractor trailer flips over and lands across four lanes of I-85 during Friday rush hour

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Southbound Interstate 85 has officially reopened after a tractor trailer overturned. The crash happened around 3:30 Friday afternoon, on I-85 South near Brookshire Boulevard.

The rig flipped onto its side, stretching across all four lanes of the highway. The wreck was so severe that transportation officials had to temporarily shut down the northbound lanes as well, causing miles of gridlock.

MEDIC treated one person for non-life-threatening injuries.
