Grand jury indicts the man accused of shooting a CMPD officer in the shoulder

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –  A grand jury has indicted a man accused of shooting a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer in the shoulder after the two fought over a gun earlier this month.

The shooting happened on Enderly Road on September 9th, after Dionte McCracking was seen attempting to steal copper. Warrants say McCracking pulled the trigger multiple times aiming at the officer’s head. He was eventually arrested after a SWAT standoff. Police say McCracking and his brother Jatarius are both career criminals with extensive histories of break-ins and motor vehicle thefts dating back more than 10 years.

The grand jury also indicted Jatarius, who is accused of shooting into homes.
