Mooresville Mayor retires after two years of pressure over “pantless” scandal

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – It’s the last day before Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney’s retirement. Carney announced his departure earlier this month.

It comes after residents and colleagues started calling for his resignation in 2024 after he was caught pantless with a woman, who isn’t his wife, at Town Hall after hours.

Earlier this year, the majority of town council gave Mayor Carney a vote of no confidence.

Mayor Pro Tem Eddie Dingler will serve as mayor starting Thursday. Dingler will complete Carney’s term which ends in November 2027.
