Investigation underway after partial roof collapse during south Charlotte house fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An investigation is underway after massive fire destroyed a south Charlotte home. The fire broke out just before nine Monday morning on Woods Corner Court. Video shows flames and thick smoke quickly engulfing the two-story home.

The fire caused a partial roof collapse, momentarily trapping two firefighters inside. The trapped firefighters were able to find their own way out. One neighbor says the fire spread with terrifying speed. Neighbor Ranin Ghannam says, “It started very light smoke from the roof. But then it started getting darker and thicker. And once we told that, I called 911 immediately and I gave them our address and we said, we think there’s fire. We don’t see fire, but there’s a lot of smoke and by it’s just going on faster and faster.”

It took nearly 50 firefighters about an hour to get the flames under control.
