Shoppers line up to celebrate Wegmans opening in Ballantyne

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte’s first-ever Wegmans is officially open in Ballantyne. Doors opened at nine Wednesday morning at the new 110,000 square-foot supermarket on North Community House Road.

Excited customers lined up early for the chain’s famous sushi, pizza, large produce section, and one-stop beer and wine shopping. Out-of-town fans who traveled here for the opening say shoppers will love the affordability.

One woman tells WCCB, “I am from Virginia, so I came down for Wegmans’ opening for for my daughter. ‘Cause you know what, families are trying to feed themselves and Wegmans’ prices are phenomenal.”

The new store creates 450 jobs. Management says recruiting and hiring efforts for both full and part-time roles are still ongoing.
