Former Charlotte City Councilwoman says she will report to federal prison next month

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Former Charlotte City Councilwoman Tiawana Brown says she will self-report to federal prison in one week. That’s according to a post on her Facebook page.

Last month, she was sentenced to serve ten months for her role in a pandemic relief scam. Brown and her two daughters pled guilty to wire fraud for fraudulently obtaining more than $146,000 in COVID relief funds.

Prosecutors say they used the money on personal expenses including a $15,000 birthday party for Tiawana.
