York Co. detention officer fired after being accused of child neglect

YORK CO., S.C. – A York County detention officer has been fired after being accused of child neglect. SLED arrested Officer Joel Snipes on Saturday. It comes after the York County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip about the neglect of several children on Friday.

When Snipes became a suspect, the sheriff requested SLED take over the investigation to avoid any conflict of interest issues. Snipes is charged with six counts of unlawfully placing a child at risk or causing harm.

He was released on a $12,000 bond and was fired on Saturday.
