Mecklenburg Co. Sheriff announces Jail North is now housing federal detainees

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Mecklenburg County Sheriffโ€™s Office has officially started housing federal detainees again. Sheriff Garry McFadden announced Friday that the North Detention Center took in its first 20 federal detainees this week.

This is part of a new partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service. The facility plans to house a total of 66 federal detainees.

The move follows months of preparation. Sheriff McFadden thanked U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson and the Marshals Service for their trust, calling the arrival a major milestone for county detention operations.
