Iredell County High School Student Charged With Felony For Making A School Threat

TROUTMAN, N.C. — A South Iredell High School student has been charged with a felony for making a threat against the school, according to a news release.

School officials say this student was charged with one felony count of False Report of Mass Violence on Educational Property for their actions.

β€œThreats of school violence will not be tolerated in the Iredell-Statesville Schools,” stated SuperintendentΒ Jeff James. β€œThe safety of our students is our number one priority. Our goal as it relates to campusΒ safety is to work collaboratively with law enforcement to swiftly remove any credible threats. We willΒ address these situations to the fullest extent of the law.”

β€œDue to the quick response of our school resource officer and school administration, we are fortunateΒ that no incident occurred other than a threat,” stated Lieutenant Darrin Payne, Interim Chief of theΒ Troutman Police Department β€œOur officers promptly addressed the threat in order to keep our schools,Β students, and staff safe.”
