The one thing we know tonight, is that we still don’t know who the mayor is going to be! City Council met Monday evening to begin the process of naming a new mayor, but they didn’t get very far. At least not officially. They may have been talking amongst themselves over the weekend, but they kept it short and sweet on Monday.
The first thing the council did was to push off until next week any potential vote for replacing disgraced former mayor Patrick Cannon. We know the rules state that it has to be a Democrat. But as for who it will actually be, the list of potentials includes, of course, several Democrats currently on the council, and others who aren’t, but were, like Dan Clodfelter and Jennifer Roberts.
But the council could go outside the box. Voters are allowed to put anybody in office they want, and some observers might figure guilt by association for any council member Cannon connected with.
So our Man on the Edge, Robert Wilder, asks: why choose from the group of regulars?
