ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police say former Lancaster County Sheriff John Cauthen has been arrested in Rock Hill.
Cauthen is accused of using a slingshot to damage his neighbor’s home on Hyacinthia Lane.
Police were called to the residence in June after the homeowner reported her front door was shattered and the front of her home was damaged.
The homeowner and another woman both say they saw Cauthen standing at the corner of his home acting strange moments after the door shattered.
After investigating, police found several sling shot pellets, marbles and paint balls in the woman’s front yard. Police also found sling shot pellets in Cauthen’s front yard.
Cauthen told police he does not own a sling shot or a paintball gun. He has been charged with malicious damage to property.
